About these notes

Class 6 Science Beyond Earth CBSE: concise notes, important questions, MCQ and question answer practice for quick study and chapter test preparation. Topics include Solar System layout (Sun, eight planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, comets), Earth’s rotation and revolution, axis tilt and seasons, phases of the Moon, solar and lunar eclipses, gravity and satellites. Also lists labelled diagrams to draw (Solar System, Earth–Moon positions, Earth tilt) and key rules to remember. Suitable for Class 6 CBSE and Bihar Board students preparing for school exams, chapter tests and multiple-choice/short-answer sections.

Key points you will learn

  • Class 6 Science Beyond Earth CBSE notes — Solar System layout: Sun, eight planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, comets
  • Rotation vs revolution: rotation causes day and night; revolution plus 23.5° axis tilt causes seasons
  • Moon phases: new, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter, waning crescent and their Earth–Sun–Moon positions
  • Eclipses: solar (Moon between Sun and Earth) and lunar (Earth’s shadow on Moon); draw alignment diagrams
  • Gravity keeps planets and satellites in orbit; basic idea: mutual attraction between masses
  • Natural satellites vs artificial satellites: examples, uses (communication, navigation, weather) and simple differences
  • Diagrams to practise: Solar System, Earth–Moon positions for phases and eclipses, Earth’s tilt for seasons

Questions students ask

What causes day and night?

Day and night occur because Earth rotates on its axis; the side facing the Sun has daylight while the opposite side is in darkness, and one full rotation takes about 24 hours.

How are seasons formed?

Seasons form because Earth’s axis is tilted by about 23.5° and as Earth revolves around the Sun different hemispheres receive sunlight at different angles and for different durations.

Why do we see different phases of the Moon?

Different phases happen because the Moon orbits Earth and the portion of its sunlit side visible to us changes with the relative positions of Sun, Earth and Moon, producing shapes from new to full.

Difference between natural and artificial satellites?

Natural satellites, like the Moon, are celestial bodies that orbit planets by gravity; artificial satellites are man-made objects launched to orbit Earth for communication, navigation or scientific observation.

Where to find Class 6 Science Beyond Earth MCQ and question answer practice?

Merit Spring ROH provides chapter notes on this topic and site-wide chapter tests and mock tests can be used for MCQ practice and question answer revision before school exams.
