Questions students ask

What are the main functions of money?

The main functions are medium of exchange, unit of account, store of value and standard of deferred payments. Medium of exchange facilitates trade, unit of account measures value, store of value preserves purchasing power and deferred payments enable credit.

Difference between formal and informal credit?

Formal credit comes from regulated institutions like banks and cooperatives with documentation, lower interest and legal recourse; informal credit is from moneylenders or traders, typically with higher interest, little paperwork and greater exploitation risk.

How does collateral reduce lender’s risk?

Collateral gives lenders an asset they can seize or sell if a borrower defaults, directly reducing expected loss. This security lowers lender risk, can make approval easier and sometimes results in a lower interest rate for the borrower.

Why did Salim need credit before he could complete and sell his order?

He needed working capital to buy raw materials, pay wages and meet short-term production costs so the order could be finished and delivered; without that cash he could not complete production.
