Questions students ask

What is development in simple words?

Development means expanding people's real choices and improving quality of life, not just increasing national income. Use examples (health, education, income) and mention measurable indicators like HDI or GDP per capita when you answer.

Why is GDP per capita not enough to measure development?

GDP per capita shows average income but ignores distribution, health, education and environmental costs. It can hide poverty, poor public services and regional inequalities, so pair it with social indicators and HDI.

What are the components of HDI and how is it calculated?

HDI combines three dimensions: health (life expectancy), education (mean and expected years of schooling) and standard of living (GNI per capita). Each dimension is normalised to an index and the indices are combined using a geometric mean.

How to answer HDI or sustainability questions in board exams?

Start with a one-line definition, give one relevant example, compare two indicators or policies, and end with a short conclusion. Use clear headings or numbered points for better presentation.
