About these notes

Class 10 Math समांतर श्रेढ़ी (Arithmetic Progressions) CBSE/Bihar Board notes give concise definitions, key formulas, solved examples, MCQ practice pointers and quick revision tips for last-minute study. Main sub-topics: definition of an AP, common difference (d), nth term a_n = a1 + (n-1)d, sum of n terms S_n = n/2 [2a1 + (n-1)d] and S_n = n/2 (a1 + l), inserting arithmetic means, word problems (age, salary, evenly spaced values) and properties of equidistant terms. Ideal for Class 10 students preparing for school exams, chapter tests and board-pattern mock tests on Merit Spring ROH.

Key points you will learn

  • Class 10 Math समांतर श्रेढ़ी (Arithmetic Progressions) notes: definition, common difference and a_n = a1 + (n-1)d
  • Nth term formula: a_n = a1 + (n-1)d and using it to test whether a number is a term of an AP
  • Sum formulas: S_n = n/2 [2a1 + (n-1)d] and S_n = n/2 (a1 + l) — rearrange to find n or d
  • Property: sums of equidistant terms are equal (a1 + a_n = a2 + a_{n-1} = ...)
  • Insert m arithmetic means: common difference = (b - a)/(m + 1) between a and b
  • Common exam tips: write term indices clearly, check sign of d, prefer S_n = n/2 (a1 + l) when last term known
  • Typical problem types: find missing terms, find n from given term or sum, and solve age/salary spacing questions

Questions students ask

What is समांतर श्रेढ़ी (Arithmetic Progressions)?

An arithmetic progression (समांतर श्रेढ़ी) is a sequence in which the difference between successive terms is constant, called the common difference d. Example: 5, 8, 11, 14 has d = 3; use formulas to get terms and sums.

How to find the nth term in an AP?

Use the formula a_n = a1 + (n-1)d. First identify the first term a1 and common difference d, then substitute n. This also helps check if a given number is a term by solving for n.

How to find the sum of first n terms (S_n)?

Use S_n = n/2 [2a1 + (n-1)d] or S_n = n/2 (a1 + l) if the last term l is known. Rearrange these to solve for n, d or the last term when required.

How to insert m arithmetic means between two numbers?

Divide the difference between the two numbers by (m + 1) to get the common difference d, then list the m intermediate terms by repeatedly adding d to the first number.

Where to find Class 10 Math समांतर श्रेढ़ी important questions and MCQ?

Merit Spring ROH provides chapter notes on this topic and site-wide practice through chapter tests and board-pattern mock tests; use those tests for MCQ practice and exam-style important questions.
